Looking for “junk” at Irish Airports

In early-April, Cloverland travelled to Ireland, searching for “Irish Horn Rosaries,” “Bog Oak Irish Harps,” “Brass Leprechauns,” and the elusive “Irish Musical Cottage.” These souvenirs were ones seen by James Bond in the mid-1950s in the novel Diamonds Are Forever in the Shannon Airport during 007’s journey to the U.S.

Cloverland goes birding on the remote island, Great Inagua to find the Secret History of James Bond.

In 1956, Ian Fleming went to Great Inagua on a mission in the service of the Society for the Protection of the Flamingo in the Bahamas, the Audubon Society, and the American Museum of Natural History. Recruited by his lifelong friend Ivar Bryce, Fleming wrote about the trip for his Sunday Times series, “Adventures in the Sun.”
